Sicuramente, avrai notato che in negozio abbiamo molti tessuti organici, alcuni dei quali sono certificati Oeko-tex, come ad esempio i tessuti Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton e molti tessuti Copenhagen Print Factory. Ma che cosa significano esattamente questi termini?

Lo standard Oeko-Tex si riferisce essenzialmente al modo in cui i tessuti sono trattati e lavorati. Se un tessuto è certificato Oeko-Tex Standard 100, significa che è stato rigorosamente testato per assicurarsi che sia privo di oltre 100 sostanze nocive conosciute.

Il termine “tessuto organico” si riferisce ai componenti utilizzati per creare il tessuto, come ad esempio il cotone. Al fine di essere considerato organico, il componente usato per realizzare quel tessuto (in questo caso il cotone) dev’essere stato coltivato secondo linee guida molto severe, come la mancanza di concimi artificiali. Questi tessuti devono soddisfare i requisiti di standard globali come il GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) al fine di essere considerati biologici, com’è il caso della maggior parte dei tessuti Birch che abbiamo a disposizione.

Oeko-tex e biologico non significano la stessa cosa e non sono termini intercambiabili, in quanto si riferiscono a pratiche differenti. Tuttavia, è certamente utile conoscerne il significato se si ha una preferenza per uno dei due tipi di tessuto.
